Janet Sue’s Helping Hand was established in March of 2008 in memory of Janet Newman after a battle with pancreatic cancer. The foundation is funded through donations from the profits of Newman Company Inc and private contributions to the Wabash Valley Foundation. The foundation builds ramps for families in need but are not financially able to have the work completed. The families are qualified though the Western Indiana Action Agency for the need and Newman Company Inc designs the ramp, secures the materials and arranges the work to be performed through volunteers that includes private individuals and Newman Company employees. | |

The first ramp built under JSHH was for a Mrs. Soward. She had moved into the house in the past year. She is 82, confined to a wheelchair and on oxygen. Her daughter 53 lives with her and has down syndrome. The front entry had several steps that made it impossible for her to leave the house. The ramp gave her the independence to stay in the home for many years to come.

The final project for 2008 was for Harry Turner. He was stricken with MS and could only leave the house for therapy and church by the means of temperary aluminum ramps. The ramp built was for the rear of the house and was 50’ long to meet the proper pitch. This will change his life forever giving mobility to enjoy life to the fullest.
